PROJECT SUMMER STAFF
As a researcher and teacher educator, I am most interested in developing ideas and practices that facilitate successful post-secondary transitions for youth with disabilities. I am particularly interested in designing transition interventions that are culturally responsive and address issues of equity and social justice in education. My early research and teaching experiences have focused on bilingual children and adolescents with disabilities. My principal role as a researcher in Project Summer has been to develop qualitative studies that explore stakeholder perceptions of factors that facilitate and/or inhibit transition planning and instruction via summer experiences at work and in the community. Additionally, I maintain a strong interest in the development of cultural capital and social networking aspects of our intervention including resource mapping and community conversations. As we move forward in the final phase of this project, I continue to enjoy transforming this knowledge into a practical and effective transition intervention for adolescents with disabilities.
